For decades, college athletes were barred from earning money through their name, image, and likeness (NIL), which meant they could not benefit financially from their brand. This longstanding rule faced increasing criticism as concerns over fairness and market freedom grew, leading to a wave of legal challenges and calls for reform. Responding to this pressure, the NCAA revised its regulations in 2021, granting student-athletes the right to profit from their NIL. In a further move toward modernization, the NCAA lifted the ban on athletes negotiating NIL deals before entering college in 2025.

Amid these shifts, the foundation for a new approach was already being laid. In 2020, two college athletes and a passionate sports fan launched YOKE, the company behind the NIL Club ecosystem. They recognized that the power of NIL could be unlocked by connecting athletes directly with their fans. Their mission was to create opportunities for every student-athlete to engage with supporters, strengthen their brand, and access new revenue streams. Their app brought fans and athletes together, laying the groundwork for a more equitable system.

NIL Club quickly became a trusted platform for college and high school athletes. It enables users to build personal brands, connect with fans, and generate income in a transparent and compliant environment. Over 20,000 groups and teams now use the platform, with 250,000 participating students and more than $16 million earned by athletes to date.

The NIL Club model is straightforward: fans subscribe to support a specific team or group—such as Alabama Football or USC Women’s Basketball—and pay a monthly membership fee. This grants them exclusive content and access to their favorite athletes, while simultaneously providing direct financial support to the club’s members. YOKE’s technology facilitates these connections without disrupting athletes’ academic or sporting obligations, focusing on teamwide benefits and collective success.

Student-athletes who join a NIL Club can start their own or join an existing one, regardless of sport, school, or activity. Earnings are distributed equally among all active and participating athletes in the club, promoting fairness and shared opportunity. NIL Clubs are managed by the athletes themselves, who oversee participation and have the ability to remove inactive members, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Fans enjoy unique, behind-the-scenes content from student-athletes, including practice routines, post-game recaps, campus life insights, and personalized messages. This content fosters a deeper connection and loyalty between fans and athletes, while giving athletes a sustainable way to monetize their brand. The NIL Club has expanded to include high school students and non-athletes, promoting financial literacy and responsible digital behavior. Brands have also become key partners, utilizing the NIL Club to run campaigns and connect with student-athletes, thereby further expanding opportunities within the ecosystem.
